Horn Lectureship Series Presents: “Beyond the Sea Peoples: Rethinking the 1200 BCE Collapse”

Around 1200 BCE, the great powers of the ancient Near East—Hittites, Mycenaeans, Egyptians, and Canaanite city-states—experienced what has long been called a “catastrophic collapse.” But was it truly the end of civilizations, or the beginning of something new?
Dr. Glazer will explore fascinating evidence of trade networks, migrations, and cultural resilience, reconsidering whether the story of the Sea Peoples is myth, history, or something in between.

This event will take place on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Seminary Chapel at Andrews University and is free and open to the public.

Andrews Undergraduate Co-Curricular credit will be offered.

Horn Lectureship Series Presents: “Exploring the Ark Mountains: Discoveries from our Latest Excursions”

This lecture will describe our most recent ascent up Mount Judi; the exploration of the archaeological ruins on the mountain and the vicinity; as well as our excursions into Armenia where Noah’s ark wood is displayed in their main cathedral; our excursion into Georgia (north of Ararat) where the earliest archaeological evidence for wine production has been found (reminding us of Noah’s vineyard)

This event will take place on Monday, October 20th, 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Seminary Chapel at Andrews University and is free and open to the public.

Andrews Undergraduate Co-Curricular credit will be offered.

Horn Lectureship Series Presents: “Is Noah’s Ark on Mt. Judi? Report from the AU 2024 expeditions to East Turkey”

When looking at the question of where Noah’s Ark landed, there are two mountains that rise to the top of the lists—Agri Dagh (called Mt. Ararat by many) in eastern Turkey and Mt. Judi to the southwest of Agri Dagh.  Mt. Judi is still favored by many Muslims and Christians today. The AU team was able to get to the ark landing site on Mt Judi and discovered some fascinating things concerning the Ark’s Landing place that we will share in this lecture.

This event will take place on Monday, October 14th, 2024 at 7:00 pm in the Seminary Chapel at Andrews University and is free and open to the public. Andrews Undergraduate Co-Curricular credit will be offered.

Horn Lectureship Series Presents: “The Austrian Expedition to Tell Lachish, 2017-2023” with Dr. Felix Höflmayer

This series of excavations have worked to expand the Middle Bronze Age palace and have discovered a possible entrance to an Iron Age IIA water system. Among the major finds were an early alphabetic inscription and a hieratic ostracon bearing a ration list with west-Semitic names, attesting to remarkable early administrative activity at the site. This lecture summarizes and discusses the results of the project in light of the findings from previous excavations.

This event will take place on Monday, November 6th, 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Seminary Chapel at Andrews University and is free and open to the public.
